2026 Artist’s Choice (Juried)

Woodstock Artists Association and Museum, (WAAM)

Main Gallery

DEADLINE TO APPLY: June 19, 2026

2026 Artist’s Choice is a juried exhibition celebrating the depth, diversity, and creative

excellence of artists working within a 50-mile radius of Woodstock. This open call invites

regional artists to engage in a process of reflection and self-curation—selecting up to three

works that they feel most powerfully represent their artistic voice, vision, and evolution.

Rather than responding to a prescribed theme, artists are encouraged to look inward: to

consider the pieces that define their practice, mark a breakthrough, or embody a level of craft

and meaning they are most proud of. The result will be an exhibition that is both deeply

personal and collectively compelling—offering audiences an authentic glimpse into what artists

themselves value as their strongest contributions. The exhibition will comprise 25-40 works in

total.

Open to all mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, mixed media,

and more, Artist’s Choice highlights the richness of the Hudson Valley’s creative community.

The juried selection ensures a high standard of quality while maintaining a wide range of styles,

perspectives, and approaches.

About the Juror

Serena Depero is an abstract painter who uses layers of color, which are applied based on a

series of formal and intuitive choices. Nature, landscapes, and personal memories are recurrent

themes in her work. Depero was born in Rome, Italy, and moved to New York in 1988. She

received a BA from Brown University in 1995 and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Hunter

College in 2001. She also studied at the Art Students League of New York, took classes at RISD,

and spent time in Florence, Italy, with Studio Art Centers International (SACI).

Depero's work has been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions in New York and abroad,

including the Pool Art Fair, the Albany International Airport, the Woodstock Artist Association

and Museum (WAAM), and the Muroff-Kotler Visual Arts Gallery at SUNY Ulster. Depero is also

the creator, curator and editor of Conversations With Artists, a popular blog featuring

interviews with working artists, and online shows. She lives and works in the Hudson Valley.
